Thoracentesis

Thoracentesis

Superior view of a thoracentesis procedure to remove excess fluid from around the lungs. The procedure is conducted by inserting a needle into the pleural space of the lungs that contains the excess fluid, which is also referred to as pleural effusion. Using a syringe that is connected to the needle, the pleural effusion is evacuated from the pleural cavity into a catheter bag.
