Tracheostomy

This medical animation shows the lateral and sagittal views of the ear, nose, and throat undergoing a tracheostomy which involves creating an incision in the trachea and inserting a tube to help the patient breathe. When the ventilator is on, it becomes the only oxygen source for the patient. When the ventilator is off, the patient can breathe through the mouth, nose, and tracheal tube. When there is a mask over the tube, the patient can breathe through the mouth, nose, and tracheal tube while humidified air flows through the tubing and mask.
