Total Hip Arthroplasty Procedure

Total Hip Arthroplasty Procedure

This exhibit shows a total hip arthroplasty procedure. The first step is to create an incision along the hip. The next step in this procedure is to open the incision to reveal the gluteus muscles, piriformis muscle, short external rotator muscle, quadratus femoris muscle, femur, and the sciatic nerve. The third step shows the short external rotator muscles pulled back to protect the sciatic nerve and the joint capsule is opened. The next step displays the femur being dislocated and the femoral neck osteotomy is performed. The fifth step includes the acetabulum being reamed and the final step in this exhibit shows the trial porous-coated acetabular component placed before placing the permanent component with screws.
