Total Abdominal Hysterectomy

This exhibit shows the anterior view of a total abdominal hysterectomy. A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the uterus in a female patient. The procedure encompasses creating an incision to enter the pelvis. Ligaments and attachments to the uterus are then clamped, sutured, and cut. The uterine vessels and then clamped and cut in order to amputate the uterus from the vagina. Lastly, the remaining vaginal stump is then sutured closed.
