Surgical Placement of a Retropubic Urethral Sling

Surgical Placement of a Retropubic Urethral Sling

A medical illustration of the perineal (inferior) view of the vagina undergoing the surgical placement of a retropubic urethral sling. In this procedure, trocars are placed through the incision of the vaginal wall and out through the skin. The sling mesh is then attached to both trocars and enters into the vaginal incision. The sling is then pulled up against the posterior aspect of the urethra and up through the skin above the pubic bones.
