This exhibit shows the anterior view of the heart and lungs with a pulmonary embolism (PE). A pulmonary embolism is a blood clot that blocks an artery of the lungs (pulmonary artery) and leads to infarctions of the pulmonary parenchyma. The source of the clot is usually form the deep veins of the legs and pelvis (DVT).
