Progression of Ureteral Thermal Injury

Progression of Ureteral Thermal Injury

A medical illustration showing the anterior view of the female urinary system with the progression of a ureteral thermal injury. The thermal injury is caused by cautery. The immediate postoperative condition of this procedure shows a slight inflammation of the affected segment of the ureter. The ureter then becomes ischemic and eventually advances to necrosis, causing a ureter leak. Anatomy highlighted in this view includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and the urethra.
