Pleurodesis

Pleurodesis

This illustration shows the process of a pleurodesis procedure of the right lung. This procedure consists of surgically applying talc between the pleural linings of the lungs (inner and outer pleura). The talc causes inflammation of the pleural lining, sealing the space between the linings and causing adhesions to form. Sealing off the space between the pleural linings aid in preventing air or fluid between these layers.
