Nuchal Cord and Shoulder Dystocia

Nuchal Cord and Shoulder Dystocia

A sagittal view of the fetus in utero with a nuchal cord injury occuring in conjunction with shoulder dystocia during birth. A nuchal cord occurs when the umbilical cord wraps around the fetus' neck. The issue usually resolves itself before birth, though it can occasionally lead to complications.
