Infant Myelination

Infant Myelination

A medical illustration depicting the lateral view of a baby's brain and an enlarged view of myelination. In myelination, a Schwann cell attaches to the axon of an undeveloped brain cell with no myelin sheath. The Schwann cell then wraps around the axon to created dense myelin sheath. The myelin sheath allows quick transmission of electrical impulses/signals along nerve cells.
