Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy

Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy

This medical exhibit shows the anterior view of the brain and lungs with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. During normal respiration, oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange within the air sacs and oxygen is supplied to the brain. When hypoxic ischemic occurs, lack of oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange results in oxygen poor blood and causes permanent damage to the brain tissue.
