Coil Embolization of Cerebral Aneurysm

Coil Embolization of Cerebral Aneurysm

The anterior view of the brain and a cross-sectional view of an artery showing the coil embolization of a cerebral aneurysm. In this procedure, a catheter is inserted in the left common femoral artery and advanced up through the carotid artery to the site of the aneurysm. A coil is then deployed into the aneurysm to restore normal blood flow by blocking blood flowing into the aneurysm.
