Central Venous Catheter: Subclavian Vein Infraclavicular Approach

This animation shows the anterior view of the insertion of a central venous catheter using a subclavian vein infraclavicular approach. This procedure involves subcutaneously inserting lidocaine and extending to the periosteum of the clavicle. An introducer needle is then inserted underneath the clavicle into the subclavian vein. A guidewire is threaded through the introducer needle under direct fluoroscopic guidance to trace its path. Next, a dilator is used to widen the access to the subclavian vein and finally insert the central line catheter into the subclavian vein.
