Basilic Venipuncture

This animation displays the anterior, medial, and cross-sectional views of the arm undergoing a basilic venipuncture. The anatomy of the arm and cubital fossa in these views include the cephalic vein, basilic vein, median cubital vein, medial antebrachial cutaneous nerve, brachial artery, median nerve, ulnar nerve, and radial nerve. This procedure encompasses a venipuncture needle shallowly inserted into the basilic vein. Incorrect insertion at a steep angle completely penetrates through the basilic vein, underlying fascia, and brachial artery causing a deep hematoma.
