This animation displays the anterior view of the layers of a male patient's abdominal anatomy prior to an anterior laminectomy of the lumbar spine. The first layer, displays the skeleton and highlights the lumbar spine and sacrum. The next layers includes the kidneys, abdominal aorta, inferior vena cava, common iliac artery, and common iliac vein. The following layer depicts the posterior peritoneum. The structures in the next layer encompass the small and large intestines. The animation then goes on to display the surgical incisions through the abdominal layers of the patient in order to complete a lumbar laminectomy.
