Anterior view of the removal of gauze over a prior traumatic leg amputation that is characterized by a foul odor and drainage, indicating further surgical amputation is needed. The external fixator from the femur is then removed to proceed with amputation of the upper left leg at mid-thigh in which the femoral artery and vein are tied off and the surrounding muscle tissue is debrided.
