This case involved the placement of a nasogastric tube in a patient that experienced some nasal bleeding. It was claimed that the hemorrhage resulted from a penetration of the esophagus and a perforation of the adjacent carotid artery.Click here to watch this video on our YouTube pageOur opponent’s illustrations featured a side view, such as this, which made this theory of arterial perforation seem possible.Utilizing the power of 3D modeling, we were able to rotate our view in this presentation so that the anatomy could be seen from the front. From this perspective it is clear that the tubes placed during surgery were in the midline while the carotids are much more lateral.
